Pickles

Image
Hey all, This week was pretty good! We got to visit some members, chase some chickens for a service opportunity, and we taught our English students about the best holiday... Halloween! We had a little Halloween party for mutual this past Saturday and it was awesome! We had ping pong, snacks, and a pickle-eating contest. It was definitely a Halloween to remember. We also got to meet with Alma Egch, who is a very good member. She and her husband needed help chasing the chickens back into the coop. So we grabbed some sticks and became chicken wranglers for a little bit. District Council this week was Halloween-themed and we all got to dress up! I dressed up as a witch. And we got to play some games. It was pretty cool. Sorry for the short email, I'll have more next week! Love, Sister Vestel

Sick

Image
Hello Everyone! This week I was sick. Not fun. I'm extremely grateful that our elders and the new Darkhan sisters were able to cover for our English class at the college. We had an exchange this week with the new Darkhan sisters, and I was able to go with Sister Wheatly. We taught their investigator the plan of salvation, and we were able to help with mutual as well. It was a fashion show, and before y'all ask, yes, I was asked to walk in it hair flip, but I was unfortunately not chosen as Mongolia's top model. Today I finally got my snow boots! They are made of horsehair, and I would like to assume that they also give me a 20% increase in speed because they are made out of horses. But we will have to see about that. We are planning on having a super spooky mutual this Sunday with lots of costumes, games, and sweet treats. I am really excited for that. I love you all, Sister Vestel

Snow

Hey all, This week we got our first official snowfall of the winter, so I am officially in an apple cider mood. We have had a lot of little blessings recently with having chances to connect with the youth, getting to meet with some less active members on Sunday, and getting free taxi rides! This past Thursday, we went to something called Toastmasters. This is basically a worldwide English club that gives speeches and meets every week. I got chosen to do one of the random speeches, and my darling companion Sister Beghetti got some "mom photos" of me. She is awesome. Saturday and Sunday of this week (one of our members actually brought a cat), we were able to watch a worldwide broadcast from our leaders in the church. This is called General Conference. And if you're in America right now thinking, "Wait, General Conference was last week... what is she talking about?" then you're totally not wrong. However, with the time difference, it is just easier to listen t...

A New Transfer In Old Darkhan

Image
Hello All! Transfers were last week, and I'm happy to say I am serving in Old Darkhan. Darkhan is about six hours northwest of Ulaanbaatar. This week was pretty busy with transfers, so it's going to be short—sorry! I'll definitely have more for next week. This week's spiritual thought comes from a book called Mafia to Mormon . It is about a man who grew up working in the Mafia and helped pull off a dozen scams in his life. Then one day, a pair of elder missionaries knocked on his door, and his road to conversion began from there. In the picture below, there is a paragraph that really stood out to me. I'll let you all read it and form your own thoughts about it. I love you guys, Sister Vestel

Spooky Season

Hey All, I don't have a lot for this week, so I will just give you the highlights. We found a new friend to teach on Sunday! Our investigator's brother came to a lesson and said he was interested. We had three days of service on Enksuren's little farm! We pulled carrots and dug potatoes up. It was a really good workout. Our transfer is on Friday this week, so I will get transfer news tomorrow! Spiritual thought for this week: Take the first step. One thing that I really struggle with is being able to start making a choice and then asking God for guidance. It is much easier for me to sit at the fork in the road, petrified to make a wrong decision. So here it is: Take the steps. Then, if you made the wrong decision, God will direct your path. I had to do this with my mission. I did not know if I should serve or not. So after a huge amount of unanswered prayers, I took the first step and hoped for the best. I was asked in the mission a couple of times what drove me to be on a ...
