I Want To Break Free
Hello everyone! I hope your July is going well.
As my title may suggest, I am getting antsy out here in the Selbe area. This week is Nadam, a super cool Mongolian holiday. It involves archery, horseback riding, Mongolian wrestling, and wearing traditional clothing known as a дээл (deel).
Although it's a really cool holiday and I'm 100% grateful to experience it, it is frustrating when we have no one to meet with here in the city. I also know that every area is having troubles this week because of it. Nonetheless, we persist.
The very first Subway shop in Mongolia opened in our area, so of course, us sisters and our area elders went! It was so good. I don't know if it's because I miss America, but that was the best sandwich I have had in a LONG time.
The Fourth of July was also super fun. We celebrated on July fifth with our English students with a little Independence Day party. I also got a hilarious text from my sister Lauren.
One of the awesome things that happened this week was getting to teach a 14-year-old girl. She is Christian while her family is Buddhist. She has the same birthday as me and she also speaks fluent English, so she requested we teach her in English. She was pretty excited to take more lessons. Unfortunately, her parents said she could not. But that first lesson was so cool to teach. Even though our encounter with her was brief, she at least has now had a positive interaction with those who represent Jesus Christ.
One of the things that I am slowly realizing is that even if people don't take lessons from us or are not interested in the gospel we have to share, we are still representing Jesus Christ and showing His love for the people we meet and talk to. Just by being Christlike, you can show people how Christ has positively affected your life.
So my advice is to be honest with everyone, to be kind, to be dependable, to be charitable, and to love everyone. Everyone is always searching for a little love. Try to represent your values as a disciple of Christ because the joy you will receive and share will be amazing. Share your light with others; trust me, they need it.
With love,
