No Car Day!

This week has been pretty relaxed compared to my other action-packed weeks. I am getting a really pretty цамц (tsamst) (Mongolian traditional shirt) made by a lovely ward member in Uner. She came by the Tuuv Baier (my church) to get my measurements and she told us how she forgot to bring a measuring tape and how hard taking measurements would be. I suddenly realized that I had brought my small sewing kit, and out of sheer luck, there was a paper measuring tape in there. So cool!

A cool fact about the Tuuv Baier is that it is the first church established in Mongolia! It's a nice peach color and was once a children's theater. It's super cool, you should look it up.

My companion started getting shin splints because we were running too fast, so we had to tone it down this week. Oh, and we had our last class of English at the National Medical School! We had a lesson with a karaoke contest at the end!

Saturday was no car day here in Mongolia, so there was no traffic and no cars in sight until 6 pm. All of the families were out walking the roads with their kids, and little emees (grandmas) came out to play with their grandchildren. It was so cool! All of the restaurants were packed and all of the ice cream stands were making nice money. It was so weird walking down the middle of the road. There was also a huge marathon: 10k, 5k, and even a 1.5k. I wanted to race so badly!

One of the things that was really spiritual this week was after Sister Kartchner and I went to a member's house with an investigator. The investigator asked why we could not watch movies or listen to any music we wanted. She said it's cool to worship Jesus and all, but we still should have our lives. That was super cool to me, not in that I thought she was right, but in that I knew that in giving up this time in my life—the movies, music, and everything else—I was living life better than ever. In giving up things I considered important, I am able to have more joy than ever before in my life. If I think about all of the things I am giving up, they are minor compared to the joy and everlasting happiness I will bring to the people of Mongolia and myself.

Is there something getting in the way of your relationship with God and Jesus Christ? Are you prepared to give it up?
Anyways, here are some lovely pictures.

With love, Sister Vestel
