I'm Killing My Trainer.

Image
Hi All, I am so glad to be able to send an email out this week! So many little miracles have been happening! But first, I want to clarify something from last week's email. I used the Mongolian word гэр (ger, said like pear but with a G). There is really no English word for this house structure. It is close to what we call a yurt or a hut. For future emails, if I have any Mongolian words like that, I'll put the English pronunciation next to it. Oh yeah, I'm killing my trainer. That's missionary lingo that means I'll be her last companion because this is her last transfer! She only has 35 days left of her mission! She will "die" as a missionary in the сэлбэ (seltheeb - the area I am in now). Last P-day was amazing! We rented bikes and were able to go through a park area! We saw a lot of roller skaters (really popular over here). We are teaching English not only in the church but also in Mongolia's National Medical University. We are really blessed to hav...

Made For Mongolia

Image
Hi all! I'm finally in Mongolia, and it's more surreal than ever! We headed out of the MTC on Thursday, 4/20/24, and we arrived in Mongolia on 4/22/24. So we completely skipped over Sunday, kinda wild. After more than 24 hours of travel, we got onto a party bus that had a karaoke machine inside. We sang some songs on the two-hour bus ride to the mission home. We had a full day of activities before a really needed shower and good rest. On Tuesday, we all got paired up with our trainers. For those of you who don't know, a trainer is another missionary who has been on their mission long enough to know the language and is able to train new missionaries. My trainer's name is Sister Katchner, and she is amazing! Her Mongolian is really good (even though she says different) and she knows the city really well. We have so much in common; we're both military brats, we like most of the same foods, and we would rather choose a night in putting a puzzle together than going out t...

VISA Miracles And Spring Flowers

Image
Hello all! Our district actually has our visas! So next week, we will all be on a really long flight to Mongolia. I am actually so excited to get out of the MTC. It's been great, but 10 weeks feel a little too long... Other than that, there is really nothing going on over here. We started trying to speak Mongolian all the time, and it's a struggle, but it is definitely good for us. Spring is finally here, and all the trees are so pretty, and all the flowers are blooming. It's pretty cool. Sorry for the short email; it really is boring over here. Love, Sister Vestel

Birthdays, Pranks And More!

Image
Hi all, I am going to keep this email brief because of the crazy General Conference plans here at the MTC. April first was pretty cool with our district. The sisters planned a silly prank that consisted of us all switching outfits every time we had a break. It was more fun for us than the elders, but it was still cool. Elder Stallard's Birthday was on Tuesday, and it was awesome. The Elders and sisters in the district gave him a bunch of rubber duckies with notes written with them or on the duckies themselves. It was super cool. We are starting to understand how to say things sarcastically in Mongolian, which is making classes really fun. I also am starting to understand my teachers and their questions, which is like three weeks too late, but it's all good. Anyways, I hope everyone is having a good Conference weekend and has their personal questions answered. Love you all, Vestel эгч
